The story picks up after the epic events of Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars (1984) #12. Spider-Man and Dr. Curt Connors (the Lizard) return home from Battleword, soon followed by the rest of the Marvel heroes, and Spidey is decked out in his new BLACK costume.

As the days pass, Spider-Man soon discovers there is more to his new costume than he at first realized.

It's actually an alien symbiote that can regenerate damaged portions of itself and augments Spidey's already considerable abilities.
